The web was right, when it told me that greenhead fly season was over in mid-August. Mark and I went out to Plum Island, and got bitten only by mosquitos.

It was less birdy (land-bird-wise) than on previous times that I've been there, but there were huge flocks of swallows, and I got to see the boardwalks that go out to the beaches which had been closed earlier in the season.

I also got to play with my new camera. Has the top left edge of the back petal got the pale edge to it because it's been oversharpened (dpreview suggests that the Olympus's default sharpening is set high) or is it just being out of focus that does that? I'm guessing that using aperture priority mode and cranking the f-stop all the way down wasn't the right call, but I'm curious as to what else I did wrong.

Beach pea:

(Scaled by 50% but I don't think it makes a lot of difference.)
