Catching up from last Saturday, my other find at Oxbow NWR was a couple of closed gentians. I took them to be buds, at first, and wondered if they'd be hard to identify while still closed, but apparently that's as open as they get.
Apparently bumble bees have an exclusive deal on pollinating them.
I should have learned this lesson last time, but I really didn't want to take all the photos with the grasshopper included. Cute as he is, I would have been better off choosing a subject.
