Plum Island, Saturday - Camilla Fox

01:46 am - Plum Island, Saturday
I had a busy weekend; Saturday I went to Plum Island by commuter rail and bike, while on Sunday I went hiking with Mike's MITOC group.
It rained on my on my way down Plum Island; it had mostly stopped by the time I got to Hellcat, but I was sad I didn't have gloves. As far as birds went, I saw a couple of redstarts, several very loud towhees, and a small flock of chickadees.
This is Common Barberry (Berberis vulgaris), a non-invasive alien.
I made it back to the train station with almost an hour to spare before the 2:48 train. To occupy myself, I poked around among the roadside vegetation next to the parking lot. Here's a closeup of some leafy spurge, which is an alien pest. It's a distinctive shade of yellow-green, and the bracts shown are about one half inch across, but I clobbered the color trying to bring out more detail.
I'm still not done captioning Sunday's pictures.
